FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Plain answers about strategic alliances, partner ecosystems, the Fulcrena Alliance Readiness Assessment, and how an engagement starts.

What does Fulcrena do?

Fulcrena helps B2B technology and critical-infrastructure companies get more from the strategic alliances and partner ecosystems that matter to their business.

We help leaders understand what is getting in the way, build the operating structure the partnership needs, and support selected parts of that structure when additional help is useful. The goal is practical: turn partnership intent into a managed, measurable way of working that leaders can run, review, and defend.

What do you mean by an "operating structure" for partnerships?

It is the structure that helps a partnership work in practice, not just on paper.

That means the right people know who owns what, how decisions get made, how work moves between organizations, how progress is reviewed, and where accountability sits. When those basics are unclear or inconsistently run, strong partners and good intentions can still produce disappointing results.

Why do strategic alliances fall short?

There is rarely one simple reason. But the problem is often structural rather than strategic.

The partnership may have real potential, yet ownership is unclear, decisions stall, teams work to different rhythms, or leaders cannot see what is moving and what is not.

Structure is not the answer to everything, and it will not rescue a partnership that should not exist. The right order is to clarify the purpose, determine whether the conditions for success are present, and then decide what operating structure is justified.

What is the Alliance & Ecosystem Diagnostic?

It is a structured assessment of an existing strategic alliance or partner ecosystem.

Fulcrena looks at how the partnership is operating, where value may be getting lost, and whether the conditions for stronger performance are present. You receive a clear view of what is working, what is getting in the way, and what should happen next.

The Diagnostic is paid work. It is different from the Fulcrena Alliance Readiness Assessment, which is a short orientation step before a Discovery Call.

What does Fulcrena build, and what do we keep?

Fulcrena helps co-design and build the operating structure your partnership or ecosystem needs to work in practice.

You keep the blueprint, the working materials, and the capability built along the way. The aim is to create something your organization can own and run, not a permanent dependency on outside advice.

Can Fulcrena help us run it?

Yes, for selected parts.

Some clients are ready to run the operating structure themselves. Others want Fulcrena alongside them until it is working consistently under real conditions. Support can be temporary while internal capability develops, or ongoing for selected activities the client chooses not to run in-house.

Either way, you keep ownership of your strategy, partnerships, relationships, decisions, data, and operating materials.

We are launching a partner program or alliance function. Is that in scope?

Yes.

Fulcrena works with organizations that are establishing a strategic alliance function, a partner ecosystem capability, a Center of Excellence, or a combination of these.

We help build the operating foundation from the ground up so the program has more than ambition and activity behind it. The goal is a practical structure your organization can own, run, and improve over time.

What is the Fulcrena Alliance Readiness Assessment?

The Fulcrena Alliance Readiness Assessment, or FARA, is a short, confidential, self-directed readiness check before either side invests time in a conversation.

It is the starting gate, not the Diagnostic. It is not a maturity score, partner score, professional opinion, or tailored recommendation.

Start by requesting access through the public readiness page. If the request appears eligible, Fulcrena sends a private link to the full Assessment. Fulcrena reviews completed Assessments within three business days and responds with one of three outcomes: ready for a structured assessment, promising but requiring clarification, or not ready for a Fulcrena engagement yet.

How does an engagement start?

Start by requesting the Fulcrena Alliance Readiness Assessment.

If your request appears eligible, you will receive a private link to complete the full Assessment. If the completed Assessment indicates that your situation appears ready or promising, you will receive a private invitation to schedule a 45-minute Discovery Call.

The Discovery Call confirms whether Fulcrena can help, whether there is a fit on both sides, and what kind of paid assessment may make sense. If there is a fit, the next commercial step is a paid Fulcrena Diagnostic.

What does Fulcrena not do?

Fulcrena is not a staffing agency, channel-marketing agency, legal advisor, tax advisor, or framework-only consulting firm.

We do not replace your Executive Sponsor, take ownership of your strategy or partner relationships, or guarantee commercial outcomes.

Fulcrena is also unlikely to be the right fit for general partnership brainstorming without a defined business need, organizational commitment, urgency, and an appropriate path to sponsorship and investment.

Should every partnership be expanded, redesigned, or scaled?

No.

Sometimes the right answer is to invest and build. Sometimes more preparation is needed. Sometimes the partnership is already doing what it should. And sometimes the conditions for further investment simply are not there.

Fulcrena helps leaders understand what is worth fixing, what is worth expanding, and what should be left alone before more complexity is introduced.
